A bird’s first fall It barely feigns to Flap its wings at All there’s to say Is that he lived the only way he could have. A man’s first flaw He nearly says The fault is that I Hate my own name But it was the only name I could have. First the rain For forty days The arc begins to Fall under the sea The beasts begin to smell the bodies. Then the beasts Begin to feast On all the beings flesh And they evolve Into a somewhat better form of human After all these days are numbered--A collection of souvenirs After all these days are numbered--A collection of souvenirs After all these days are numbered--A collection of souvenirs After all these days are numbered--A collection of souvenirs Memories And storybooks Will leave us to be Leave behind Entire species and our memories Remember times When memories Were measured not In things that could be had But rather things that you had seen.

I’m in the place of changing Nowhere to put my face in now Even in my way, No, Even in my way Making my way will shape me now In any day I try to hold myself it helps to In any day I get to lose myself I see it helps to I’m not about to let a moment go to waste around me I’m not about to set a day to paces I cannot see Deeper and deeper

Jake's Dream 04:05
In my dreams I died. You did not save my life. Why would you not save my life? It could be, I’m not for you. I’m not for you. Cosmic visions I saw. By dark I was consumed. And as my spirit spread, you sang out, “I love you.” It could be, I’m not for you. I’m not for you As I awake, I fear I have mistaken. All I await is all the stuff I’ve taken for granted right here. For granted right here Sour taste in my mouth I press myself to you. We can’t be for someone. We all must be For ourselves. It could be, I’m not for you. I’m not for you. It could be, I’m not for you. I’m not for you. It could be, I’m not for you. I’m not.

There’s a thing called art What does it mean to me What would you do if art appeared and set you free Moving with a sound that’s calling You can hear What if sound showed up to take you out of here Open the door Let the beautiful breeze blow until you turn out the lights Real life’s darker than most of us Can’t seem to find my way back to when I was five Take a step back Take a swim against the tide Jump into the moment that your music died I’m thinking of my old piano You can hear What if sound showed up to take you out of here Open the door Let the beautiful breeze blow until you turn out the lights Real life’s darker than most of us Can’t seem to find my way back to when I was five

Rt. 123 05:27
Who makes my hands move when they do not want to? Who makes my feet move when they do not want to? Want to. One two three. Want to. One two three. Who makes the trees grooves when they have their birthday? Who makes the trees groove when they do not want to? Want to. One two three. Want to. One two three. Want to. One two three. Want to. One two three. You make yourself move, and you do want to. You make yourself move, and you do want to. You make yourself move, and you do want to. You make yourself move, and you do want to. You want to. You want

Sesame Boyz 03:22
Slow stepping down a path I never had to step and say that A child that’s hanging from the stacks You hope you don’t look back But there’s made room for that If it’s looking right Where’s my sight, what’s beside, where’s this life How’s it look in the light of your making There’s a place where you put all those days in Staying on end while they’re wasting You appear and they get to be Like they’re up on high There’s always a sadness But it’s a low one And taller places are there to perch on And look straight forward, and never blink an eye I never blink my eye But I look down Am I staring into spaces I’ve done made to write about How’s it look in the light of you’re making There’s a place where you put all those days in Staying on end while they’re wasting You appear and they get to be Like they’re up on high

Cycle River 04:19
Pass the runner Pass the runner On your left dear On your left dear A silent reaction The sound of her paces The sound of her breathing Pass the biker Pass the biker On your left dear On your left dear A silent reaction The sound of his bike chain The sound of his breathing Breathing in the river air Breathing in the river air Pass the whole city Pass the whole city On your west dear On your west dear The loudest reaction The sound of her business The sound of her breathing

Saucy 04:25
In a little waking hour With a ray of natural light There’s a piece of life laid out Something stirring Underneath the dying layers In a glow of red sundown There’s a sound of warmth played out Even if it’s hardly moving There’s only little moments of the same Love that tends to fade Till it starts to stay, giving off bright ray Taking on a different sight Words in a line to thread as a vine And settle into a missing place It’s not told that love in mind gets misaligned Just a sight by running eyes It’s not told when every running line will never wait by one’s side Wait while a life love moves on Headed toward a bright lit hour Coming from a dark lit loom There’s a piece of life laid out As it’s changing As a bit of dancing round Moving to a flickered beam There’s a sound of warmth played out Even if it’s only playing There’s only little moments of the same Love that tends to fade Till it starts to stay Giving off bright ray Taking on a different sight Words in a line to thread as a vine And settle into a missing place It’s not told that love in mind gets misaligned Just a sight by running eyes It’s not told when every running line will never wait by one’s side Wait while a life love moves on

Know My Own 04:52
The bellow of a bluebird’s call The whisper of a waterfall There are voices I can hear Songs I’ve only heard while dreaming A thunderstorm sits by my side At night I’m floating in my mind There are voices that are real Crawl outside, where I can Feel those visions, feel those voices I know my nature I know my own A sea of trees turn into one A trail that I am wondering on There are voices that are real So much going on in my mind A natural world in my soul Since when is winning natural There are voices that are real Crawl outside, where I can Feel those visions, feel those voices I know my nature I know my own

about

GS020

"Combining staccato-infused rhythms with swirling sonics and 8-bit synthesizers, endearing vocals float effortlessly above and into a soaring chorus, wrapping around the intertwining instrumentals with beautifully apt harmonies." - The Line Of Best Fit

"Son Step craft a heady blend of psychedelic melodies and anthemic indie-pop songwriting. Their twisted electronic layers and propulsive, off-kilter percussion give their songs a careening sonic quality..." - Impose Magazine

--

SON STEP is a guitar-less, synth-drenched rock outfit based in Philadelphia, comprised of twin brothers Jon and Chris Coyle (vocals/synthesizers and bass), Joel Gleiser (vocals/electronics), and Matt Scarano (percussion).

With their unique setup, the group expertly assembles twisted percussive layers and electric textures that build upon each other, resembling a game of Jenga on the brink of collapse. Maintaining a firm pop sensibility, complex rhythmic backbone and affinity for natural sounds, Son Step weave repeated vocal phrases and colorful, unpredictable instrumentation into a beautiful, cacophonous collage — eliciting feelings of keen awareness and wild bliss.

In this spirit, Son Step’s impending third full-length album, Fossilillies, is their most dynamic, evolved offering yet, a whirlwind of novel soundscapes where each member is an integral part of the songwriting process. Raw, impromptu synth phrases and harmonies run rampant through each track, a dream-like atmosphere propelling the record forward. Ultimately, Fossilillies is a nine-song postcard, illustrating the band in a period of particularly heavy touring, adventure and introspection.

Lyrically, the record reaches in various directions, elaborating on the joys of color and creativity while simultaneously tackling the nihilistic pace and dark hopelessness of modern times. Whether it’s “Saucy” assessing love and joy as concepts that can never truly be verbalized, “Jake”s Dream”, a profound “death dream” from the perspective of a dog, or the clear homage to Philly’s Schuylkill River Trail on “Cycle River”, Son Step are able to discuss these elaborate topics in the context of familiar city environments, making them all the more relatable.

“Feel those visions. Feel those voices. I know my nature. I know my own” are the last words uttered on Fossilillies. During these final moments, the surrounding instrumentation gradually putters out, resembling a battery on a low charge, while Gleiser’s vocals take the forefront, slowly and emphatically. A respite, reminding you to look down at the earth and take that flower in your grip.
